Linux Mint introduces new logo

by Nam Phong · October 3, 2019

Clement Lefebvre, head of Linux Mint, recently released the monthly news for the project and revealed some new news about LMDE 4 and Linux Mint.

Clement Lefebvre announced the upcoming LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) 4 series codenamed “Debbie”, which is perfect for Debian. The LMDE version is based on Debian GNU/Linux and provides rolling publishing instead of Ubuntu like the regular Linux Mint OS. Regarding LMDE 4, there is currently no release data release and no expected release time.

The Linux Mint 19.3 release is scheduled for release this Christmas, based on the Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS (Bionic Beaver) operating system, and the development team is working to improve the default date format in the “language” configuration tool for the Cinnamon and MATE desktop environments.

In addition, they further refined the recently introduced XAppStatusIcons API, which makes it easy to create applets for Cinnamon and MATE desktops and use them with the libAppIndicator library. The system reporting tool has also been updated.

Clement Lefebvre also revealed that the team is designing a new Linux Mint logo. The original logo has problems such as inconsistent margins. Under the premise of fixing these problems, the logo design tries to move toward the LM shape similar to the original shape. They hope to reduce the logo to L and M letters, resulting in a more modern design with more colors and shapes.

Finally, Clement Lefebvre confirmed that the MintBox 3 computer built in cooperation with Compulab is almost ready, and the team is currently troubleshooting problems with the CPU. The third-generation MintBox computer is expected to be available later this year with Linux Mint 19.2 pre-installed.
