Google releases Pixel 8a: Equipped with Google AI capabilities, starting at $499

According to official Google sources, the Pixel 8a smartphone was officially released on May 7, 2024. In terms of core specifications, the model is powered by the Google Tensor G3 chip, shared with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. This SoC features a 9-core CPU architecture, including a 3.00GHz Cortex-X3 super-core, four 2.45GHz Cortex-A715 large cores, and four 2.15GHz Cortex-A510 small cores. The GPU is based on the Arm Mali-G715 architecture and supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing capabilities.

The display features a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1080×2400, a pixel density of 430 PPI, and supports a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR, with a peak brightness of 2000 nits.

In terms of imaging capabilities, the Pixel 8a is equipped with a 64-megapixel main camera (1/1.73-inch sensor, f/1.8 aperture), a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2.2), and a 13-megapixel front camera (f/2.2). The device’s standout feature in imaging is its AI functionality, supporting features like Best Take, Magic Editor, and Audio Magic Eraser. Additionally, the Pixel 8a offers up to 8x super-resolution zoom, along with Night Sight and Motion Blur features.

Regarding battery life and charging, the device is equipped with a 4404mAh battery, supporting up to 18W wired fast charging and wireless charging. The manufacturer claims the device can last up to 72 hours in testing scenarios.

Other distinctive features of the Pixel 8a include the Gemini AI assistant, AI-based Circle to Search function, and Pixel Call Assist. Moreover, the device is IP67 rated for dust and water resistance.
