Windows 11 Version 23H2 Reaches End-of-Support Next Month: Auto-Upgrade to 24H2 Imminent
Microsoft has reminded users that support for the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 version 23H2 will officially end in just one month. Beginning November 12, 2025, these builds will no longer receive monthly updates, including security patches and protections against emerging threats. The final update for these editions will be the October 2025 security release.
The Home and Pro editions of version 23H2 were originally released in October 2023 and are now approaching the end of their support lifecycle. Other editions — including Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise — will remain under mainstream support for another year, until November 2026. Microsoft began notifying users well in advance, issuing the first reminder in August and a second in September. In October, the company once again emphasized the importance of upgrading to a more current version of the operating system.
The upgrade to Windows 11 version 24H2, the next major release launched in October 2024, will occur automatically on all devices running versions 22H2 and 23H2, provided they are not part of IT-managed infrastructures. Users will still have the flexibility to schedule the restart or defer installation at their convenience.
However, not all PCs will be eligible for an immediate upgrade. Microsoft has imposed a temporary block on devices using drivers that rely on SenseShield technology or obfuscation methods, citing potential compatibility issues. These systems will remain ineligible for the 24H2 update until the problems are resolved.
The company also reminded users that support for the final builds of version 22H2 will end on October 14, 2025 — one month before the discontinuation of updates for version 23H2. Those seeking to extend support and access the latest features are encouraged to upgrade to Windows 11 version 25H2, released on September 10, 2025, which is available to all devices running 24H2 with “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” enabled.
Users can check their current Windows 11 version by pressing Win + R and entering the command “winver.” If the system shows version 23H2 or earlier, Microsoft advises updating as soon as possible to remain protected and supported.
Additional details about the support timelines for various Windows editions can be found in Microsoft’s official product lifecycle database, which also lists the software products reaching end of service within the year.
