Wine 10.17 Lands: Major Compatibility Boost for Windows Apps on Linux
The Wine project has announced the release of its new experimental version 10.17, dated October 17, 2025. Wine enables users to run Windows applications and games on Linux, macOS, and BSD, and this update focuses primarily on improving compatibility and stability.
The Mono engine has been upgraded to version 10.3.0, and EGL is now used by default as the OpenGL renderer. The COMCTL32 library has been divided into two separate modules—v5 and v6—to simplify the proper loading of the required implementation for specific applications. ANSI ODBC driver support has also been enhanced, removing several limitations when running legacy software. On FreeBSD, CPU feature detection has been refined, allowing for more accurate recognition of processor capabilities. The release additionally includes a wide range of bug fixes and performance improvements.
The update is now available for download. As a developer build, it is best suited for users who wish to experience new features early and are willing to contribute to testing and feedback.
