Cyberattack Forces Jaguar Land Rover to Halt Production
Jaguar Land Rover has disclosed a cyberattack that forced the company to temporarily shut down several critical systems. The incident had a significant impact on manufacturing and retail operations, though preliminary assessments indicate that customer data remains uncompromised. In an official statement published on the automaker’s website, the company emphasized that immediate precautionary measures were taken, including the deliberate shutdown of systems to contain the attack.
The company clarified that no evidence of customer data theft has been found thus far. Nonetheless, the disruption has severely affected service operations and assembly lines. Specialists are currently working to restore global applications in a “controlled mode,” though no timeline has been provided for a full return to normal operations.
The first reports of outages came from UK dealers, who reported being unable to register new vehicles or order spare parts. It was later revealed that the attack occurred over the weekend and affected several systems, including those at the Solihull plant, where some of the brand’s flagship models—Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover, and Range Rover Sport—are manufactured.
Jaguar Land Rover has not disclosed the nature or scale of the attack. As of publication, no ransomware groups have claimed responsibility for the incident. Experts note that weekend attacks are particularly common, as organizations are often less prepared to respond immediately during those periods.
Jaguar Land Rover has been owned by India’s Tata Motors since 2008, following its acquisition from Ford. Today, the company produces more than 400,000 vehicles annually, employs over 39,000 people, and generates yearly revenues exceeding $38 billion. The disruption caused by the attack therefore carries serious implications not only for JLR itself but also for its extensive network of suppliers and partners.
