Microsoft declares the end of support for SharePoint Server 2013

Today marks the routine update day for products such as Windows 10 and Windows 11 and the final update for products like Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013, for which Microsoft ceases support henceforth.

Having been launched a decade ago, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 first saw the light of day on January 9, 2013, followed by Service Pack 1. Mainstream support for the product concluded on April 10, 2018, ushering in a five-year extended support period, which now draws close.

Support for both the initial release and the SP1 version terminates today. Microsoft has announced that as of April 11, 2023, no further updates will be provided to this version, even in the event of security vulnerabilities.

Companies still utilizing Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 should urgently upgrade to avert potential losses from security breaches.

Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016/2019 remains supported, although the 2016 version’s mainstream support has ended, expiring on July 14, 2026. Mainstream support for the 2019 version concludes on January 9 next year, followed by a two-year extended support period until July 14, 2026.

As perpetual versions gradually lose support, businesses may consider Microsoft’s SharePoint Server subscription edition, introduced in 2021. This edition has no fixed lifecycle, with ongoing updates provided by Microsoft, contingent on continuous subscription purchases by enterprises.
