Iran’s IRGC Dismantles Alleged Intelligence Network Linked to Foreign Spy Agencies
Iranian security forces have announced the dismantling of an intelligence network that authorities in Tehran link to foreign spy agencies. Representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps reported that the group had been under surveillance at various stages—from covert vetting to active operational measures. According to the agency, the investigation unfolded simultaneously across multiple regions, culminating in a coordinated operation.
State media relayed the statement without elaboration—no dates were provided, nor were the locations of the arrests disclosed. The number of individuals under investigation also remains unknown, a typical feature of such communications, as authorities rarely divulge details in matters of internal security.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities between Iran and Israel. Over the summer, Israeli Air Force strikes targeted sites within the Islamic Republic. According to Tehran’s official figures, more than 1,000 people were killed, including military commanders and specialists connected to the national nuclear program. In retaliation, Iran launched missiles and drones against targets in Israel.
At one point, American forces intervened: in a single night, they carried out strikes on several facilities associated with Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. A ceasefire agreement followed, with the current pause in hostilities taking effect on 24 June—formally still in force, though tensions remain palpable.
Simultaneously, Iran has intensified its pursuit of individuals suspected of transferring information to foreign entities. In the autumn, Parliament approved a law imposing harsher penalties on those accused of ties to U.S. or Israeli intelligence services. Since its adoption, several sentences related to espionage on behalf of foreign states have already been carried out.
