SK Hynix: LPDDR5T is compatible with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform

SK Hynix announced that its LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo) has successfully completed performance and compatibility verification on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, boasting an impressive speed of 9.6Gbps — making it the world’s fastest commercial mobile DRAM.

Since launching the LPDDR5T in January of this year, SK Hynix has been diligently collaborating with Qualcomm to ensure harmonious compatibility, allowing both the LPDDR5T and the third-generation Snapdragon 8 platform to optimize their respective potentials. With the completion of this verification, the integration of LPDDR5T in mobile devices is poised for rapid expansion. SK Hynix intends to offer a package with a capacity of 16GB, and a data processing rate of 77GB/s — equating to the processing of 15 full high-definition (Full-HD, FHD) movies in a mere second.

The LPDDR5T marries the virtues of high speed and low power consumption, operating within the ultra-low voltage range stipulated by JEDEC, between 1.01V to 1.12V. It incorporates the HKMG process and is manufactured using the cutting-edge 1αnm process to achieve peak performance. In comparison to its predecessor, the LPDDR5X memory, the LPDDR5T boasts a speed increase of 13%. The addition of the “T” suffix in its name underscores its high-speed characteristics.

SK Hynix is confident that until the next generation LPDDR6 comes to fruition, the technologically advanced LPDDR5T memory can dominate the market, meeting the burgeoning demands for high speed, high capacity, and low power consumption across high-performance storage devices. The application range of the LPDDR5T memory is not limited to smartphones; it has the versatility to be integrated into fields like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR).
