Beware CS2 Players: High DPI Mouse May Lead to Ban
A while ago, we reported on an issue with AMD Radeon’s Anti-Lag+ feature causing Valve’s Anti-Cheat (VAC) to ban players in “CS2.” Although Valve rectified this concern in their October 19th update, rescinding the bans imposed on affected players, VAC seems to have recently stumbled upon a new conundrum—it’s banning players who exhibit exceedingly rapid mouse movements.
Citing information from PCGamer and PCGamesN, several impacted gamers have shared video snippets, demonstrating their mouse DPI settings cranked up beyond 10,000. While frenetically swinging their in-game viewpoints and firing haphazardly during the warm-up phase, they subsequently received VAC bans as evidenced in their Steam interface. In related Reddit discussions, some players mentioned receiving bans merely for such antics during a single match. User Somethingese took it a step further, creating a fresh account and spending nearly an hour replicating this phenomenon.
Two clarifications are pertinent here. Firstly, within “CS2,” certain cheat tools allow players’ avatars to gyrate at breakneck speeds, akin to spinning tops. This motion serves to thwart auto-aim functionalities of other cheating players from landing headshots, rendering it nearly impossible for legitimate players to target them. Secondly, such rapid rotations aren’t exclusive to cheating mechanisms. Legitimate players can also indulge in them. In fact, many derive amusement from these dizzying spins during warm-ups or buy phases, either by employing console commands or the aforementioned ultra-high DPI settings.
Clearly, VAC seems to have made some erroneous judgments in this arena, inadvertently banning several innocent players. Somethingese has already dispatched a communiqué to Valve regarding this. Several players, intrigued, have trailed in his footsteps, keen to corroborate this glitch. As of this writing, Valve remains reticent on the issue.
On a related note, for those who relished such antics in “CSGO,” it might be prudent to abstain from them in “CS2” for the time being.
