Rumor: memory bit width of AMD Navi 31 is 384 bits

AMD will launch Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards this year, equipped with Navi 3x series GPUs based on the RDNA 3 architecture, the most high-end of which is Navi 31. Rumors have long pointed out that the Navi 31 has a 256-bit video memory bit width, and the corresponding video memory is 32GB, but Twitter user @greymon55 recently said that this information is incorrect.

@greymon55 said that the AMD Navi 31’s video memory width is 384 bits, and the corresponding video memory is 24GB, while the Navi 32’s video memory width is 256 bits. If equipped with GDDR6 memory with a rate of 18 Gbps, the memory bandwidth has reached 864 GB/s without considering Infinity Cache, while the memory bandwidth of Navi 32 is 576 GB/s. In addition, the Navi 33 has a 128-bit memory bandwidth and a memory bandwidth of 288 GB/s. AMD increased the video memory bit width and reduced the number of video memory modules, which can reduce costs to a certain extent and reduce the pressure on heat dissipation.

Navi 31 will be packaged in MCM multi-chip. It is reported that it will be equipped with one GCD (Graphics Compute Dies) and six MCD (MultiCache Die). Two different processes will be used. The former is TSMC’s 5nm, and the latter The other is 6nm. Twitter user @AMDGPU_ showed the visual structure diagram of Navi 31, showing that the graphics computing module is still one chip, not the two in past rumors.

In addition, it was reported some time ago that the number of WGPs of Navi 31 will be reduced from the previous 60 to 48, and the number of corresponding stream processors will also be reduced from 15360 to 12288, which means that the core size is reduced by 20%. The same is true for Navi 32 using MCM multi-chip package. The number of WGPs will be reduced from 40 to 32, and the number of corresponding stream processors will also be reduced from 10,240 to 8,192. The single-chip Navi 33 has not escaped the fate of being cut. The number of WGPs will be reduced from the previous 20 to 16, and the number of corresponding stream processors will also be reduced from 5120 to 4096. Overall, the size of the entire Navi 3x series of GPUs has been reduced by 20%.
