AMD confirms Radeon RX 7000 series launch in 2022
AMD’s next-generation Navi 3x series GPUs will be based on the RDNA 3 architecture that powers the Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards. According to Seeking Alpha, during the 2021 earnings conference call, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su confirmed that there will be several important product releases this year, including CPUs based on the Zen 4 architecture and GPUs based on the RDNA 3 architecture. Coupled with the introduction of a new generation of AM5 slots, PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 memory, AMD’s high-end platforms will usher in a massive overhaul.
The Navi 3x series will have three GPUs, Navi 31, Navi 32, and Navi 33. Among them, Navi 31 and Navi 32 will use MCM multi-chip packaging, and GCD (graphics computing chip) and MCD (multi-cache I/O chip) will use two different process technologies. There are rumors that the Infinity Cache of Navi 31 and Navi 32 will move to a 3D stack design, which will be added to the MCD chiplet, similar to the principle of 3D V-Cache on the Zen 3 architecture.
Recently, AMD engineers listed every new Navi 3x series GPU (currently deleted) in their Linkedin profile, at the same time, the process technology used by the chip is also marked. Navi 31 and Navi 32 will be manufactured by 5nm and 6nm process, and Navi 33 will be manufactured by 6nm process. This also indirectly confirms a rumor that in the Navi 3x series GPU, Navi 33 will still be a single-chip design.
In addition, AMD will change the original structure, no longer the original CU computing unit, and will use WGP as the main computing module, each WGP has 256 stream processors. It is rumored that Navi 31 will have 60 WGPs, that is, 15360 stream processors, the Infinity Cache is 256MB, the video memory bit width is still maintained at 256 bits, equipped with 16GB of GDDR6, and the core frequency is 2.5 GHz; Navi 32 has 40 WGPs, that is, 10240 stream processors, Infinity Cache is 192MB, video memory width is 192 bits, and it is equipped with 12GB GDDR6; Navi 33 has 20 or 16 WGPs, that is, 5120 or 4096 stream processors, Infinity Cache is 64MB, video memory width is 128 bits, and it is equipped with 8GB of GDDR6.
