MSI Z790 motherboard can support up to DDR5-6800 memory

There have been rumors that the 13th generation Core processor and Z790 motherboard will support higher frequency DDR5 memory, but there has been no definite evidence. Now the manual for the MSI Z790 motherboard has flowed out on the Internet. From the product specification table, the MSI Z790 motherboard supports JEDEC DDR5-5600 by default, and this is 4800MHz on the 12th generation Core and Z690 motherboards.

This description is released by videocardz, it is the manual of MSI’s high-end MEG Z790. In addition to the standard frequency of JEDEC, the manual also states that the Z790 supports a memory frequency of up to 6800+MHz when a single-sided memory is installed per channel. If you use double-sided memory, the speed will be reduced to 6400+MHz. The frequency of two single-sided memory per channel is also the same. If there are two double-sided memory per channel, the frequency will be reduced to 5600+MHz.

In contrast, the MSI MEG Z690 motherboard supports up to 6666MHz DDR5 memory, while the MPG series supports up to 6400MHz. It can be seen that the Z790’s support for DDR5 has indeed been enhanced.
In addition, the best Z790 motherboard using DDR4 memory has a maximum frequency of 5333MHz when a single-sided memory is installed in each channel, while the frequency of MSI’s best Z690 DDR4 motherboard is 5200MHz.

Since the X670 motherboards on MSI’s official website have no written memory specifications, it is still not possible to judge whether the Z790 or the X670 supports faster memory.
