Icy Dock introduces CP130 adapter: Enabling DSLR cameras to utilize M.2 NVMe SSDs

Typically, DSLR camera users rely on SD or CF cards for storage. However, with the increasing storage demands of 4K/8K video recording, higher-resolution photography, and burst shooting, the PCIe-based XQD card was introduced, followed by the incorporation of the NVMe protocol. Consequently, CFexpress Type B storage cards have become increasingly popular.

As the prices of M.2 NVMe SSDs have recently become more affordable, terabyte-level storage has grown more accessible. Imagine if DSLR cameras could directly utilize M.2 NVMe SSDs, thereby expanding storage capabilities and reducing costs. According to TomsHardware, Icy Dock has recently introduced the CP130 adapter, which serves as a converter for DSLR cameras and camcorders, allowing M.2 NVMe SSD support through CFExpress slots.

The CP130’s overall dimensions are 55 x 130 x 20 mm, constructed from durable plastic, weighing approximately 300 grams, and finished in black. It features a standard built-in 1/4″ camera screw, enabling the adapter to be mounted on DSLR cameras, camcorders, tripods, or other mounting brackets. By pairing it with a 1/4″ to 3/8″ bushing, the mounting options can be further expanded. The tool-free installation design employs a simple locking mechanism to secure the M.2 SSD tray in place, allowing for easy SSD replacement.

Compatible with 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110 form factor M.2 SSDs, the CP130 connects to DSLR cameras or camcorders via a CFexpress Type B slot. Its interface bandwidth is PCIe 3.0 x2, with a maximum transfer rate of 16 Gbps. Icy Dock states that the CP130 is compatible with Canon EOS R3, R5, 1DX, C300 Mark III, and C500 Mark II, as well as Nikon Z9, Z7II, D500, and D850, Fujifilm’s X-H2S, and Panasonic’s Lumix GH6.

Icy Dock has not provided pricing or specific release dates for the CP130, though the estimated retail price may be around $200.
