Google Cuts Free Daily Quota for Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro AI Models
Google continues to recalibrate the terms of its free AI access amid surging demand. The company has reduced the daily allowance for image generation in its Nano Banana Pro model and revised the wording of usage limits for the advanced language model Gemini 3 Pro.
According to the updated support documentation, free-tier users may now create no more than two images per day in Nano Banana Pro — down from the previous limit of three. The help page notes that image generation and editing are in exceptionally high demand, meaning these limits may fluctuate and are reset daily.
At the same time, Google has redefined the rules governing free access to Gemini 3 Pro. The documentation now mentions only “basic access,” with daily quotas described as dynamic and contingent on system conditions. When Gemini 3 Pro began rolling out on November 18, the company promised five free prompts per day — matching the allowance of Gemini 2.5 Pro — but the free tier no longer specifies any concrete numbers.
Paid subscriptions, however, remain unchanged. The Google AI Pro plan still includes up to 100 model requests per day, while the more premium AI Ultra offers up to 500. In practice, more intensive use of Google’s AI services is increasingly pushed into the paid tier, while the free tier slowly evolves into a narrowly limited trial experience.
A similar trajectory has already been seen among other industry leaders. After introducing its built-in image generator in ChatGPT, OpenAI initially postponed a wide release for free users due to unexpectedly high demand, later granting access with its own usage caps. Adjusting quotas as user numbers grow has become standard practice for major AI platforms — a way to manage load while nudging users toward commercial plans.
