Apple may launch a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra this year

Last year, Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Ultra, a more substantial iteration compared to the Apple Watch Series 8, offering a set of exclusive features for professionals. According to Wccftech, Apple is in the process of developing the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra, which might be released later this year alongside the new Apple Watch Series 9 and the iPhone 15 series smartphones.

It is understood that Apple will launch three new Apple Watch products this autumn, including the second generation Apple Watch Ultra and two models of the Apple Watch Series 9, codenamed N210, N207, and N208 respectively. Expectedly, there won’t be significant design changes, preserving the distinctive elements among the products. However, no further details are available at this moment, including potential changes to the display size. Additionally, Apple may integrate more sensors into the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra to enhance health tracking and monitoring capabilities.

Apple introduced three Apple Watch products last year, namely the Apple Watch Ultra, Apple Watch Series 8, and Apple Watch SE, with the Apple Watch Series 8 available in two sizes, 41mm, and 45mm.

Earlier reports indicated that Apple plans to introduce micro LED technology into the new Apple Watch Ultra, but it might be another year or two before this comes to fruition. Like OLED, micro LED is a self-luminous display technology, negating the need for additional backlighting. Since micro LED employs inorganic materials, its lifespan is extended. Compared to traditional LCDs, micro LED is more power-efficient due to the absence of energy-intensive backlight sources. However, this novel technology is still in its nascent stages.
