Xbox Game Store will allow PC players to freely choose where to install the game

Recently, Megan Spurr, the head of the Xbox Game Pass community, and Jason Beaumont, the director of Xbox experience partners, showed an example through a video of choosing to install the game downloaded from the Xbox store in any folder on the C drive. For PC gamers, this is a small but important change.

Microsoft said that in the future, PC games downloaded by players from the Xbox store can be saved in any location. This is the freedom that players have been waiting for for many years, and it is more in line with the traditional PC gaming experience. This feature is still being tested by Xbox internal personnel, and according to Microsoft, it will come soon. Currently, players are downloading games from the Xbox Game Store on their PC. Microsoft allows players to store the games on the local hard drive or in a specific folder. This area will be locked by Microsoft and has its own directory name and file structure.

It’s not clear whether Microsoft allows games to be stored on external storage devices. The video demonstration is only installed on internal storage devices. As PC games are getting larger and larger and occupy more storage space, many players now store games on external storage devices. For example, Steam allows games to be stored and run from external drives.
