Win10 on ARM will officially support running 64-bit programs from November

Microsoft and Qualcomm have spent a lot of energy on the promotion of Windows on ARM, but the situation is not very ideal. A few days ago, Microsoft announced that since last year it began to adapt to the AMD64 instruction set architecture (x64), and it was finally done.

Simply put, ARM64 PCs can now run 32-bit and 64-bit ARM APP locally, compile and run 32-bit x86 programs with the help of the simulation layer, and it is expected that 64-bit exe programs will be compiled and run in November.

Of course, the efficiency of compiling and running the simulation layer is definitely not as efficient as the local running. The most important purpose of adding support this time is to solve the gap of application scarcity faced by users.

From the current ARM PCs simulation of 32-bit exe, the efficiency is low, and 64-bit may not be much better. It is worth mentioning that it is said that Microsoft will release the Surface Pro X2 notebook (ARM platform) soon. It is expected to release support for 64-bit programs for the first time.

We are working closely with Acer, HP, Lenovo, Samsung and Surface to bring these Windows 10 on ARM innovations and products to our shared customers,” the blog post added.
