The reason NVIDIA officially explained at the time was that although the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB was an excellent graphics card, the name was wrong, and it was confusing to have two products with the RTX 4080 name at the same time.
According to Bodnara, recently, Kim Seung-gyu, head of NVIDIA Korea, further explained the reason for the cancellation of the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB, saying that putting it together with the RTX 4080 16GB will make players confused because the latter provides more powerful performance. Usually, NVIDIA’s naming will reflect the expected performance and clear positioning of the GPU, which is also RTX 4080, but the performance difference between the two is large, reaching 30%. For consumers who do not understand the performance, it will affect the purchase.
Due to the sudden cancellation of the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB, Nvidia is rumored to be taking some of the marketing costs for some brands. The impact on partners does not seem to be as big as imagined, but the more troublesome is that the planning of the entire product line is disrupted, and it takes a period of time to adjust. It is reported that after NVIDIA cancels the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB, the corresponding specifications are likely not to appear again.
