Nvidia suddenly announced the cancellation of the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB

At the NVIDIA GTC conference last month, NVIDIA released a new generation of GeForce RTX 4090 / RTX 4080 series graphics cards, using GPUs based on the Ada Lovelace architecture and TSMC’s custom 4nm process, coupled with the third-generation RTX ray tracing architecture and DLSS 3 and other new technologies, greatly improving performance.

Among them, GeForce RTX 4080 has two products, namely GeForce RTX 4080 16GB and GeForce RTX 4080 12GB. These two graphics cards are not yet on sale, but Nvidia suddenly announced that it will cancel the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB, which is a rare operation. Nvidia says the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB is a great graphics card, but the name is wrong, and it’s confusing to have two RTX 4080 names at the same time.

Although both belong to the RTX 4080 series, the specifications of GeForce RTX 4080 16GB and GeForce RTX 4080 12GB are far apart, and the chips used are also different. According to the official data given by NVIDIA, the former is about 30% stronger than the latter, which can be said to be two completely different levels of graphics cards. In fact, after the release of the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB, it was criticized by the media and players a lot, believing that its specifications were not suitable for the positioning of the 80 series in the past, and Nvidia just changed the products originally belonging to the RTX 4070 level to a more “tall” name.

In addition, Nvidia confirmed that the GeForce RTX 4080 16GB will be available on November 16. Next, Nvidia will launch products with similar specifications to the GeForce RTX 4080 12GB, rearranging the product line, and the specific model has yet to be confirmed.
