The fourth-generation iPhone SE may be designed based on the iPhone 14

Rumors have long suggested that Apple has commenced the development of the fourth-generation iPhone SE, embracing a design akin to the iPhone XR’s full-screen display, and transitioning to a 6.1-inch LCD notched screen. Simultaneously, the company plans to abandon the Home button, a feature used for several years, in favor of the Face ID design. On this foundation, new components will be introduced, such as incorporating advanced sensors to enhance photo quality, offering consumers a more affordable new iPhone model.

Recently, Twitter user @URedditor revealed changes in both the functionality and design of the fourth-generation iPhone SE, somewhat diverging from previous information. The new model’s design includes:

  • A foundation based on the iPhone 14 design
  • Support for Face ID
  • Equipped with USB-C
  • Action button
  • A single rear camera

The alterations of abandoning the Home button for Face ID are unequivocal, and the adoption of the USB-C port aligns with device requirements in specific regions. The Action button, rumored to feature a solid-state design with tactile feedback and the feel of physical keys, is a multifunctional key that will be equipped on the new generation iPhone 15 Pro series. Moreover, like the current model, the fourth-generation iPhone SE will retain the design of a single rear camera.

Earlier reports indicated that Apple’s procurement head visited multiple flexible AMOLED panel manufacturers in mainland China during the first half of this year. These OLED panel suppliers are vying for the fourth-generation iPhone SE’s AMOLED panel orders, with Tianma possibly becoming a secondary supplier.

There were earlier reports that Apple initially planned to release the fourth-generation iPhone SE in 2024 as the first product to feature Apple’s in-house 5G modem. However, due to delays in the development of Apple’s proprietary 5G modem, large-scale production has been postponed until 2025, consequently delaying the plans for the fourth-generation iPhone SE as well.
