The first batch of laptops equipped with Meteor Lake are rumored to be priced at over $1,500

During the “Intel Innovation” summit held in San Jose, California, Intel announced the impending release of its next-generation mobile platform processor, Core Ultra’s first iteration, known as Meteor Lake, slated for December 14th of this year.

Meteor Lake boasts a disaggregated modular architecture, comprising four distinct modules, interconnected via the Foveros 3D packaging technology. For its computation modules, it heralds Intel’s maiden use of the Intel 4 fabrication process, featuring the P-Core built on the Redwood Cove architecture, and the E-Core based on the Crestmont architecture. Its integrated graphics harness the newly minted Alchemist Xe-LPG design. Furthermore, the newly incorporated NPU promises an enhanced distribution of diverse AI tasks.

According to a report by UDN, upon Meteor Lake’s release on December 14th, Intel’s partners are poised to unveil their unique designs. However, the premier batch of laptops integrating this novel processor won’t be wallet-friendly, with prices potentially exceeding 50,000 New Taiwan Dollars – equivalent to approximately $1,555.4.

During this event, Acer’s Chief Operating Officer, Gao Shuguang, showcased the Swift laptop series, suggesting Acer will likely be among the pioneering manufacturers to introduce Meteor Lake-equipped laptops. The reference design from Intel could possibly be affiliated with Acer. Market insiders speculate that certain manufacturers might adopt a more circumspect approach, opting to launch their Meteor Lake laptops in 2024. Consumers may initially encounter challenges in procuring these products, with the majority potentially becoming available in early 2024.

While Intel refrained from disclosing specific pricing for the Meteor Lake processors, the emphasized AI computational capabilities could potentially inflate the pricing of end-user devices. As AI emerges as a contemporary buzzword in the tech realm, it’s foreseeable that manufacturers will champion it as a primary selling point for new products. This not only enhances their brand image but also ensures that Meteor Lake laptops cater to the high-performance niche, invariably resulting in a price surge during their initial release phase.
