Supermicro is ready to launch the W680 motherboard

In August last year, the driver (10.1.18836.8283) of the Intel chipset was exposed on the Internet. You can see that the list includes various PCH device IDs, of which 19 involve the next-generation platform. These chipsets include upcoming consumer desktop platforms, enterprise, and embedded platforms, HEDT platforms, and more. Including X699, Z690, W685, W680, Q670, Q670E, R680E, H670, B660, H610, and H610E, W680 is positioned as the mainstream workstation.

Recently, Twitter user @momomo_us found that a number of European retailers have listed Supermicro’s upcoming W680 motherboards, including the MBD-X13SAE and MBD-X13SAE-F. All use the LGA 1700 socket, ATX specification, equipped with four memory slots that support ECC, and the price is between 417 and 469 euros.

Pairing the W680 chipset is Alder Lake-S’s Xeon W-14XX series processors, which differentiate the product from consumer desktop platforms by using some key commercial and workstation-grade technologies. According to the information leaked last year, the Xeon W-14XX series processors use the LGA 1700 socket, and there are currently two configurations known, including 8 P-Cores + 8 E-Cores and 6 P-Cores. On the TDP configuration, there are 125W, 65W, and 35W with a “K” suffix.

According to the roadmap exposed at the time, the Xeon W-14XX series processors were originally planned to be launched in the third quarter of 2021, but apparently, Intel changed the schedule later. In contrast, the Xeon W-13XX series processors that used Rocket Lake-S last year were more difficult, and the release was also delayed, but it only existed for about half a year.
