Star Wars Jedi: Survivor could use Unreal Engine 5

‘Star Wars Jedi: Survivor,’ an action-adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by EA, was launched this year on April 28th on platforms such as PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. While its content received unanimous praise from gamers and game media, its early performance was widely criticized, leaving its Steam review status as “mixed” up to the present. However, according to Tech4Gamers, new job postings by Respawn Entertainment suggest that they seem to have committed to the development of the next installment of ‘Star Wars Jedi,’ and are actively recruiting for it.

At present, they are hiring a senior special effects artist for the ‘Star Wars Jedi’ team, noting that the role requires proficiency with Wwise—an interactive audio development tool—and Unreal Engine 4, with Unreal Engine 5 being a plus.

Given that numerous game studios have already transitioned to Unreal Engine 5, and based on the job requirements, it’s not difficult to infer that the sequel to ‘Star Wars Jedi’ will likely be built on Unreal Engine 5, possibly harnessing new engine features such as the Lumen and Nanite systems.

Additionally, Tech4Gamers discovered that Respawn Entertainment is hiring a senior combat designer for a ‘Star Wars’ FPS, a role which also requires proficiency with Unreal Engine 4.

Currently, Respawn Entertainment is juggling several projects. However, compared to the ‘Star Wars Jedi’ series, the ‘Star Wars’ FPS led by Peter Hirschmann is shrouded in greater mystery. After all, Stig Asmussen, the game director of the ‘Star Wars Jedi’ series, has previously expressed a desire to create a trilogy.
