SpeedTest Releases 2023Q2 Global 5G Network Speed Ranking

Renowned internet speed analysis platform, SpeedTest, owned by parent company Ookla, recently released the global 5G network speed rankings for the second quarter of 2023. The United Arab Emirates gallantly seized the top position, primarily owing to the fierce competition between the two major operators.

The aforesaid operators are e& and Etisalat, both presently engrossed in a heated contest for market dominance, effectively escalating the UAE’s 5G network speed.

Specifically, e& has a median download speed of 680.73Mbps with a latency of 43 milliseconds, whereas Etisalat operates with a median download speed of 453.93Mbps and a latency of 57 milliseconds. This results in the UAE’s average download speed of 557.7Mbps, crowning the country as the chart leader.

SpeedTest’s Q2 global 5G network speed rankings of 2023 highlight the UAE’s triumphant rise to first place, achieving speeds up to 680Mbps.

South Korea and Qatar have clinched second and third places respectively, with speeds of 501.56Mbps and 465.62Mbps. Though South Korea previously topped the 5G network speed charts, it has now been superseded by the UAE.

The ranking list unfolds as follows: UAE (Middle East), South Korea (East Asia), Qatar (Middle East), Brazil (South America), Singapore (Southeast Asia), Bahrain (Middle East), Kuwait (Middle East), Saudi Arabia (Middle East), New Zealand (Oceania), China (East Asia), and Bulgaria (Europe).

From the rankings, it’s evident that the 5G network speeds in the Middle East surpass those in other regions, with the Asia-Pacific region taking the lead. In contrast, within large markets, only China cut, with other markets being relatively small in size and serving a smaller demographic.

This disparity mirrors the considerable investment variations in the 5G network across different markets. After all, establishing a 5G network necessitates a substantial infrastructure of base stations, implying a steep rise in operator costs.
