Sony seeks cooperation with Korean game makers

The conclusion of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard remains forthcoming, the venture has been punctuated by numerous encounters with their rival, Sony. Regardless of Sony’s tireless endeavors to hamper this purchase, it appears decidedly challenging to harbor expectations for ultimate success. Sony, therefore, has begun to orchestrate a symphony of collaborative initiatives as a strategic preparation for impending engagements with Microsoft.

According to MTN reports, Sony is currently courting collaboration via its PlayStation division with Korean game developers and publishers. The principal object of their pursuits is Pearl Abyss, with aspirations to secure exclusive content for the much-anticipated “Crimson Desert”.

“Crimson Desert” is an open-world action/adventure game, portraying a medieval fantasy world seared by the flames of war. The narrative unfolds a tale of mercenaries battling for survival across the vast continent of Pywel. The game, initially scheduled for release in the winter of 2021, experienced an indefinite postponement in July of the same year. The studio justified the delay, citing the need for more time to craft a game with greater depth and intrigue, to reach AAA-level quality. The developers had previously alluded to a completion expectation within the year, inciting Sony’s interest.

Pearl Abyss is not the sole Korean entity Sony is pursuing collaboration. Rumors abound that Sony has set its sights on Neowiz, Com2uS, and NCsoft. Prior reports suggest Sony has already brokered an agreement with NCsoft, wherein Guerrilla Games, a subsidiary of Sony, will collaborate with the latter, harnessing the “Horizon” IP to craft an MMO game.
