Netizens share a 3D printed guard to protect the RTX 4090 cable adapters

At present, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards based on the Ada Lovelace architecture are equipped with a 16Pin 12VHPWR interface. Recently, players have reported that the 12VHPWR interface of their graphics card and its power supply cable has overheated and melted. Such incidents have not only aroused extensive discussion among players, but Nvidia has notified all partners that damaged graphics cards in similar incidents need to be sent to its headquarters for further failure analysis. This should be the first time Nvidia has taken a similar approach.

Referring to relevant reports, if the 12VHPWR cable is severely bent or frequently connected/disconnected, it may be overheated and damaged or even directly melted in some cases. It is recommended that the cable be bent at a distance of more than 3.5cm from the plug. Although manufacturers like Cablemod have introduced 90° bend adapters, they may not work with all current GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards.

Recently, a netizen on Reddit shared the fixing bracket made by 3D printing and bent it in the appropriate position according to the suggestion to reduce the pressure exerted by the bending on the cable. At the same time, it also acts as a “wire harness”, which makes the player’s wiring tidier and safer to use.

This kind of design also has shortcomings. It may occupy a large space. It does not matter if the platform is open. Some players will not have enough internal space in the chassis and need to remove the side panel. However, at this stage, this is a feasible temporary solution.
