Netflix launched Game Controller app that can use iPhone and iPad as game controllers

Recently, reports have emerged that Netflix is planning to allow users to use their mobile phones as controllers. This has now been confirmed with the introduction of an app in the App Store called Netflix Game Controller. This app enables users to connect their iPhones or iPads to their television and use them as wireless controllers to play games.

However, this app is not yet available for download, and Netflix has not announced which games will be compatible with it. Additionally, there has been no announcement regarding when a version of the Android platform is expected to be released.

Images from the App Store reveal that the Netflix Game Controller interface includes a left-side analog joystick and right-side buttons labeled “A,” “B,” “X,” and “Y.” The “A” button has been enlarged, and the “B,” “X,” and “Y” buttons are arranged in a fan shape around the upper left perimeter of the “A” button.

As for the versions of the app corresponding to the iPhone and iPad, the design is consistent, with the only difference being screen size. Both versions also include a set of “Netflix” buttons and menu buttons, although their corresponding operational functionality cannot yet be confirmed.

Netflix has previously expressed a desire to enhance the interconnectivity experience between mobile phones and televisions. By allowing users to directly use their mobile phones as TV controllers and enabling the direct use of games downloaded on mobile devices, it may be able to increase user engagement. This could even encourage multiple users to enjoy a shared experience on larger television screens.

Netflix, which has already launched 55 mobile games, plans to add another 40 games within the year. This includes three exclusive titles in collaboration with Ubisoft, and even further plans to introduce its own cloud-streaming gaming service.
