MSI motherboard BIOS new features exposed: One-click overclocking of the CPU to 6GHz+

Recent revelations suggest that MSI has introduced an intriguing new feature within its BIOS interface: “P-Core Beyond 6GHz+.” This function allows users to effortlessly overclock the CPU’s performance core frequency beyond 6GHz, with the highest available option being “6.3/5.8GHz.” This implies that the CPU is capable of operating at peak frequencies of 6.3GHz for single-core and up to 5.8GHz for all cores, offering users a highly convenient method for overclocking.

From the BIOS information, it can be inferred that the motherboard in use is MSI’s MEG Z790 ACE MAX, with a BIOS update from September 21, 2023, version E7D86IMS.A0BU2. Although the exact CPU model remains concealed, based on the foundational 3.2GHz CPU frequency, it is plausible to assume that this might be the unreleased 14th generation Core i9-14900K/KF. After all, currently, only this CPU model can automatically turbo boost to 6GHz and has the potential to reach the ambitious 6.3GHz. Furthermore, the platform’s total memory capacity stands at 32GB, which, when XMP is activated, attains a memory frequency of 8000MHz. This showcases the MSI MEG Z790 ACE MAX’s proficiency in optimizing high-frequency memory. However, it is yet to be confirmed if the “P-Core Beyond 6GHz+” feature is exclusive to the MSI MEG Z790 ACE MAX motherboard and the 14th generation Core i9.

MSI launched its Z790 MAX motherboard series mid-month, which includes the following models:

  • MEG Z790 GODLIKE MAX
  • MEG Z790 ACE MAX
  • MPG Z790 CARBON MAX WIFI
  • MPG Z790 EDGE TI MAX WIFI
  • MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI
  • PRO Z790-A MAX WIFI

The primary enhancement in the MSI Z790 MAX motherboard series pertains to its power delivery. From the flagship MEG Z790 GODLIKE MAX with its robust 26-phase 105A intelligent power delivery to the entry-level PRO Z790-A MAX WIFI’s 16-phase 80A intelligent supply, every model boasts formidable power delivery designs. Additionally, the new releases have upgraded from Wi-Fi 6E to Wi-Fi 7, doubling the maximum theoretical speed to 5.8 Gbps. Within the MAG and superior Z790 MAX products, MSI has fully incorporated support for PCIe 5.0 M.2 and provides tool-free M.2 thermal armor installation. The MEG series even features a magnetic design at the M.2 location, simplifying the installation or upgrade process. All MEG/MPG series Z790 MAX models will utilize the newly introduced JAF pin design, enabling users to connect ARGB and fan cables with just a single wire.
