Minecraft has now surpassed an astounding 300 million sales

At the recent Minecraft Live 2023 event, Mojang announced that as “Minecraft” approaches its 15th anniversary in 2024, the game has now surpassed an astounding 300 million sales, along with unveiling a myriad of other revelations.

Indeed, as early as 2020, “Minecraft” had already achieved sales exceeding 200 million copies. The only game with a sales tally coming close to “Minecraft” is “Grand Theft Auto V,” crafted by Rockstar North, published by Rockstar Games, and available across platforms including PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC. Yet, even this gaming titan has amassed just over 185 million copies.

As “Minecraft” gears up for its monumental 15th anniversary, Mojang’s General Manager, Helen Chiang, recounted the collective achievements of the global player base. Players have crafted an impressive 15 million pickaxes, unearthed over 6.7 million diamonds, and vanquished more than 15 million skeletons. Chiang accentuated that the achievement of selling over 300 million copies of the game was almost an unimaginable milestone when the inaugural block was placed in the game.

The game’s director, Agnes Larsson, delineated the forthcoming release of the 1.21 version update in 2024. Further enrichments are also in store for “Minecraft: Legends,” enhancing its depth with additional content. Additionally, Mojang has charted plans to release the “Star Wars: Path of the Jedi” update on November 7th through the software marketplace, providing players with a renewed gameplay experience.

In a collaborative venture between the UK’s BBC Studios and Minecraft Education, players will be afforded the opportunity to witness the world of “Minecraft” through the lens of the “Planet Earth III” content, a creation inspired by the BBC Earth series, enabling them to explore a block-constructed terrestrial panorama.
