Microsoft starts selling some Surface components

For those who have indulged in teardown videos of Microsoft Surface’s nascent products, they are well aware of the early Surface devices’ abysmal maintainability, with adhesive omnipresent. However, Microsoft has initiated significant improvements in recent years, rendering the newer Surface devices more amenable to disassembly and maintenance. According to reports from Liliputing, Microsoft has begun to offer various components of the Surface for users to purchase and replace independently.

Microsoft has announced in a blog post that these parts will initially be available for purchase in Microsoft stores in the United States, Canada, and France. Dealers in other regions can acquire these parts through existing channels. The company also plans to expand the sales scope to additional regions in the future.

For Surface tablets, Microsoft will provide some parts for devices from the Surface Pro 7 onwards to the Surface Pro 9, depending on the specific model: Microsoft only offers the stand for the Surface Pro 7, but the latest Surface Pro 9 even has heat dissipation modules, power and volume buttons for sale.

The situation is comparable with the Surface Laptop notebooks. However, since this is a later series, Microsoft provides a relatively rich variety of parts from Surface Laptop 3 to Surface Laptop 5, including Surface Laptop Go 2 and Surface Laptop Studio, featuring display screens, keyboards, SSDs, and more.

In addition, the all-in-one Surface Studio 2+ is also on Microsoft’s list. Microsoft will provide screens, SSDs, heat dissipation modules, built-in power supplies, and rubber foot pads for users in need.

Detailed lists of supported devices can be viewed on Microsoft’s blog. Prices for these components can be found on Microsoft’s online store for the United States region.
