Intel’s Q4 Surge: Outpaces AMD and Apple Combined

According to a report by Wccftech, Canalys’ latest statistics reveal that Intel performed exceptionally well in the global PC market during the fourth quarter of 2023, securing the top position.

Intel’s shipments in the client market, encompassing both desktop and mobile platforms, reached 50 million units, marking a 3% year-over-year increase. AMD ranked second with 8 million units shipped, experiencing a slight 1% decrease, while Apple’s shipments totaled 6 million units, witnessing a 4% decline. Intel dominated the market share with 78%, its shipments surpassing the combined total of AMD and Apple by more than threefold.

Interestingly, preferences for PC selection varied across different global regions and market segments: desktop computers were popular in the APAC (Asia-Pacific) and EMEA (Europe, Middle East/Africa) regions; laptops showed strong performance in the markets of China and Latin America; whereas, North American consumers exhibited a preference for tablets.

It was noted that client CPUs generated $41 billion in revenue for Intel last year, a 2% increase. Apple followed in second place with revenues of $8 billion, achieving an 8% growth, and AMD’s revenue stood at $5 billion, with a 6% increase. Other manufacturers like Qualcomm and MediaTek lagged significantly behind the three giants, though Qualcomm is expected to make a significant entry into the PC market this year with its Snapdragon X Elite/Plus, potentially altering the competitive landscape.

Looking at the shipments by PC manufacturers, Lenovo accounted for 25% of Intel’s total shipments, followed by HP (23%), Dell (19%), Acer (7%), and Asus (6%). For AMD, Lenovo also led with 40%, followed by HP (29%), Asus (14%), and Acer (6%). According to a previous report by Jon Peddie Research, laptops remain the most popular choice, accounting for nearly 69% of PC shipments.

Despite AMD offering commendable options across different market segments, Intel continues to wield control over the OEM market, maintaining its absolute dominance in the realm of x86 CPUs.
