Firefox introduces Add-on badges to mark trustworthy developers

Firefox currently announces a badges update to the Firefox add-ons. This update mainly adds a number of extension logos with security verification and trustworthiness.

The badges will be marked after the extension name to increase user trust, which may also help attract more users to download the extension.

Of course, this is also a free gift. If developers need to apply for a certification logo, they need to pay and submit the code to Firefox for regular review to ensure the security of the extension.

The new badges types include the “Extensions By Firefox” and “Verified Extensions” badges. The “Extensions By Firefox” badges are mainly the extension developed by Firefox that will be marked with the Firefox logo.

The marked “Extensions By Firefox” badges are divided into a Firefox browser icon or displayed from Firefox, while a “Verified Extensions” badges display a green certification or a certified logo.

Third-party developers need to pay additional audit fees to the Firefox browser. After the audit is passed, Firefox will periodically check its code and monitor to ensure its security.

At the same time, all extensions that have not been regularly reviewed by the Firefox browser will be prompted. Firefox said that Firefox add-on can only be installed and used after the user confirms that it is trusted.

Firefox hopes to use these logos and prompts to ensure the security of the extension, and of course, it can charge developers a small fee to supplement the development of the project.
