Apple Safari browser will drop HTTPS certificates valid for more than 13 months

Safari will no longer accept new long-term HTTPS certificates later this year, that is, new certificates that are valid for 13 months from the date of their creation.

Apple announced the policy at a certification authority browser forum meeting. Beginning September 1, 2020, any new website certificate valid for more than 398 days will not be trusted by the Safari browser. Older certificates issued before the deadline are not affected by this rule.

By implementing the policy in Safari, Apple will implement the policy on all iOS and macOS devices through extensions. This will have a certain impact on webmasters and developers, who need to adjust their next certificate operation strategy to ensure that their certificates meet Apple’s requirements, otherwise it may affect page access on more than 1 billion devices and computers.
