Apple intends to launch a brand-new iPad Pro equipped with an OLED screen in 2024
Apple’s latest financial report indicates a slump in the revenue of its iPad product line to a recent nadir. While the tech giant unveiled a new iPad Air at this year’s WWDC23, it evidently failed to significantly invigorate sales. It seems consumers are in anticipation of an upgrade to the more premium iPad Pro, and the latest rumblings suggest Apple plans to debut a new generation iPad Pro with an OLED screen next year.
The current offerings of the iPad Pro come in two sizes: 11-inch and 12.9-inch, with the latter boasting a mini-LED display. However, Apple’s recent inclination has been toward the OLED display, suggesting that the next iteration of the iPad Pro will embrace this self-luminous technology. Eminent Apple product leaker, Mark Gurman, in his latest dispatch, asserts that Apple intends to launch a brand-new iPad Pro equipped with an OLED screen in 2024, available in 11-inch and 13-inch variations. He contends that this represents the most significant refresh in the iPad Pro lineup in nearly half a decade, noting that the current design is essentially a continuation of the 2018 model. Over recent years, modifications have predominantly pertained to internal chip upgrades, with the external aesthetic remaining largely unchanged.
The 2024 version of the iPad Pro is slated to transition to the M3 chip, which will first make its appearance in Mac computers by the end of this year. This iteration aims to rival the performance capabilities of Apple’s own MacBook Air, adeptly handling multitasking, high-definition video editing, and other intensive operational demands. Concomitant with the chassis redesign, a new version of the Magic Keyboard is also on the horizon. The revamped keyboard will feature a more expansive touchpad to accommodate the myriad of mouse control features introduced in the current iPadOS, aligning with Apple’s vision of defining the iPad Pro as a bona fide “computer.”
If the groundbreaking iPad Pro redesign is indeed reserved for next year, current users might find it prudent to await this release. Prior speculations hinted at Apple unveiling a new iteration of the iPad mini this year, primarily accentuating an upgrade to the A15 or A16 chip. For the casual user with no pronounced predilection for expansive screens or top-tier performance, this should hold a distinct allure.
