Apple has ordered 120 million OLED panels to Samsung, Will be used in future iPad models

Apple has gradually switched from LCD to OLED on the iPhone. In the days to come, the iPad is likely to do the same. This shift may start with mini-LEDs. As in previous years, as Apple’s main display supplier, Samsung is likely to receive most of the orders in the future.

According to KoreaTimes, Samsung has received an order for 120 million OLED panels for the iPad from Apple. However, Apple did not completely rely on Samsung. It also placed an order for 50 million OLED panels for iPad from LG Display, which is twice the previous order. Its E6-3 production line is designated for the production of these panels. On the other hand, BOE has also received orders for OLED panels from Apple, but it is not clear whether it will be used for iPhone or iPad, or both. These OLED panels will be used in refurbished models. Industry professionals familiar with Apple’s supply chain said that BOE is still working hard to increase the yield rate in order to increase production.

The problems faced by these three manufacturers are different. Samsung pursues a dual strategy of OLED and LCD, while LG Display focuses on small and medium-sized OLED panels, while BOE will continue to improve quality and production capacity. It is understood that Apple will probably launch the first iPad with an OLED panel in 2023, but individual models may be released in advance to 2022. One of the reasons why Apple switched from mini-LED to OLED is to minimize the halo effect. Due to the high cost and aging of OLED panels, Apple will be more cautious about it.

Earlier news said that Samsung has begun to produce LTPO panels for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max high-end models, and LG Display has also begun to produce OLED panels for the new generation of iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini.
