Apple chief designer Evans Hankey is leaving

Former Apple chief designer Jony Ive announced his departure from Apple in 2019 to set up a company called LoveFrom, which has since ushered in big clients like Airbnb. The replacement for Jony Ive is Evans Hankey, but the female designer has only worked in this position for three years, and will soon leave Apple, and there is no replacement for the time being. This means that there may be a huge gap in Apple’s position.

There is currently no suitable replacement at Apple, and Evans Hankey will continue to work at Apple for six months before leaving. During her time at Apple, Evans Hankey was involved in the design of several products and played a key role.

Apple’s design team brings together expert creatives from around the world and across many disciplines to imagine products that are undeniably Apple,” an Apple spokesperson said in a statement shared with Bloomberg. “The senior design team has strong leaders with decades of experience. Evans plans to stay on as we work through the transition, and we’d like to thank her for her leadership and contributions.

Following Jony Ive’s departure, another Apple employee, Alan Dye, was promoted to lead the company’s software and user interface design and, like Evans Hankey, shared product development and upgrades. Alan Dye is still at Apple, also reporting to Jeff Williams. In the near future, Apple products may not have new designs but will be updated on the original molds. Apple’s AR glasses are rumored to be coming soon, and Evans Hankey’s departure shouldn’t affect the wearable’s launch.
