Apple Card service may switch to American Express cooperation

The Wall Street Journal suggests that Apple might be considering a strategic shift for its credit card service, Apple Card, potentially partnering with American Express.

Initially, the Apple Card credit card service was launched in collaboration with Goldman Sachs. This fruitful partnership subsequently expanded to introduce the ‘Apple Pay Later‘ buy-now-pay-later service, as well as an Apple Card savings account offering attractive interest rates for users. However, current murmurs indicate that Apple may soon be pivoting towards a partnership with American Express.

Despite these speculations, the reports assert that no concrete changes have been confirmed as yet. Furthermore, it is not anticipated that Apple will alter the collaborative dynamics of the Apple Card credit card service in the near term. It is expected to take some time before it is definitively known whether Apple will indeed form a partnership with American Express.

Apple, for its part, has offered no comment on these reports. Should Apple choose to forge a partnership with American Express, it may entail significant changes to the locations where the Apple Card credit card service can be used. This is attributable to the fact that the original partnership with Goldman Sachs involved the issuance of cards by MasterCard, which is widely accepted at most sales outlets within the United States. In contrast, credit cards issued by American Express are accepted at comparatively fewer locations.
