AMD, NVIDIA are rumored to be working on custom processors for the next game consoles

In recent news, both AMD and NVIDIA are preparing to make customized processors for the next game consoles, which means that Microsoft’s Xbox, Sony PlayStation, and Nintendo’s new game consoles are all ready to use this SoC.

However, the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, which have not been on the market for a long time, should not directly equip the new SoC in the next-generation models in the short term or have large-scale design changes. At most, the next-generation models are replaced with a thinner and lighter design, and at the same time, a processor specification with a more power-saving design is adopted.

From the point of view of time, it should not be the time to launch the above-mentioned design models in the near future. After all, there is still a shortage of components at this stage and the market is still in short supply. Microsoft and Sony should focus on increasing production capacity and meeting market demand.

On the contrary, it has been more than 5 years since Nintendo launched the first Nintendo Switch. During this period, only the updated battery design and OLED display screen specifications were introduced. As well as the launch of the Nintendo Switch Lite with non-removable left and right handlebars, it seems that the time has come to prepare for the launch of a significantly upgraded version of the hardware specifications.

In addition to recruiting engineers from NVIDIA recently, it is expected to build the next game console to use the processor, and there have been rumors that NVIDIA will produce a processor for the next Nintendo Switch. The internal code name is Drake, and the actual model is T239, which is also designed based on the Tegra processor.

At the same time, related rumors also pointed out that the next Nintendo Switch will correspond to the real-time light and shadow tracing effect, and correspond to specifications such as output 4K resolution image quality. Nintendo has always avoided talking about the next Nintendo Switch, only revealing that it will update its products at a suitable time.

As for AMD, it is currently recruiting engineers, and it is expected to build customized processors corresponding to the next Xbox and PlayStation, but it is expected to take some time to prepare, so it should not be launched in a short time.
