Facebook Pay will be renamed Meta Pay

Meta announced that it will change the Facebook Pay launched in 2019 to Meta Pay. In 2009, it took the lead in launching the payment function on Facebook, and launched Facebook Pay in 2019, allowing users to complete various payment needs on Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp services. At present, companies and users in more than 160 countries and regions have made B2B, B2C, or C2C payments in 55 currencies through Facebook Pay.

The name change to Meta Pay this time, in addition to echoing the company’s name to Meta, is more in line with the company’s current development direction with the aim of targeting the Metaverse.

In addition to changing the name, Meta will further simplify the cross-platform experience and meet all payment and transaction needs in the metaverse environment through a single electronic wallet.
Leading Commerce & Financial Technologies at Meta, Stephane Kasriel says:
We’re in the very early stages of scoping out what a single wallet experience might look like and will have more to say further down the line. But to break down our early thinking, we’re looking at: how you can prove who you are and carry that identity into different experiences in the metaverse; how you can store the digital goods you own and take them with you wherever you go; and how you can pay easily and with the payment method you want, whether that’s to a friend or buying from a business or creator.

At the same time, in the future, it will also help companies, stores, and creators to simplify the online transaction process, so that companies or stores, as well as creators, can quickly collect profits through Meta Pay when they sell services, goods, and creative content.
