4th generation Snapdragon 8cx will have three distinct configurations

Rumored under the codename “Hamoa,” Qualcomm’s 4th generation Snapdragon 8cx is the first system-on-a-chip (SoC) to adopt the customized Oryon core, a technological advancement attributed to the previously acquired Nuvia. Recent information reveals that Qualcomm will design various configuration combinations for the 4th generation Snapdragon 8cx to accommodate an array of devices or products at different price points.

According to WinFuture, the 4th generation Snapdragon 8cx will be available in three distinct configurations, with the internal model numbers SC8380 / SC8380XP, SC8370 / SC8370XP, and SC8350 / SC8350X respectively. The most significant differences between the three lie in the CPU department: the most powerful, SC8380 / SC8380XP, boasts eight performance cores and four efficiency cores, totaling twelve; SC8370 / SC8370XP is reduced to six performance cores and four efficiency cores, totaling ten; while SC8350 / SC8350X further diminishes to four performance cores and four efficiency cores, making eight in total.

It remains unclear whether Qualcomm’s segmentation is targeted at different device platforms or possibly different price points. Configurations with a reduced core scale could potentially be named something akin to Snapdragon 7c. Furthermore, there should be differences in core frequencies between the versions, thereby creating more substantial performance disparities to distinguish them.

The new chip might be manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process, with the GPU drawing inspiration from Adreno 740, supporting DirectX 12, OpenCL/DirectML, and Vulkan 1.3, and equipped with an AV1 encoder/decoder. It also supports LPDDR5X-4200 memory, with a maximum capacity of 64GB, and additionally accommodates NVMe, UFS 4.0, Wi-Fi 7, and the Snapdragon X65 5G modem, even offering the capability to connect an external discrete graphics card through Thunderbolt 4.

Latest reports indicate that the initial batch of devices featuring the 4th generation Snapdragon 8cx will emerge in early 2024.
