Valve’s December 2023 Steam Hardware Survey: A Prelude to 2024’s Graphics Card Revolution

Recently, Valve released the results of the Steam Hardware Survey for December 2023, showing minimal overall changes. With the arrival of numerous new products in January 2024, primarily focused on graphics cards, it will be interesting to observe the impact on subsequent statistics.

In the past month, the market shares of several leading Nvidia graphics cards experienced slight declines, with only the RTX 3060 and RTX 3070 showing growth. The RTX 3060, topping the list, saw its share increase by 0.24 percentage points, rising from 5.04% to 5.13%. The GTX 1650, ranking second, experienced a drop of 0.07 percentage points, falling from 4.76% to 4.54%. The GTX 1060, in third place, saw its share decrease by 0.44 percentage points, from 4.32% to 3.76%. The RTX 2060, now in fourth position and up one spot from last month, experienced a marginal decline of 0.02 percentage points to 3.59%. The RTX 3060 Ti, ascending to fifth place from last month, also witnessed a slight decrease of 0.03 percentage points, dropping to 3.40%. The RTX 3060 Mobile, previously in fourth place, fell to sixth with a 0.44 percentage point decrease to 3.37%.

Nvidia currently holds nearly three-quarters of the total market share, standing at 74.80%, with AMD at 15.96%, and Intel at 8.15%. Furthermore, Full HD (FHD) remains the most popular resolution among gamers, accounting for 59.58%, followed by 2K at 16.39%, and 4K at a mere 3.77%.

In this survey, the market share for Intel and AMD processors stands at 65.64% and 34.36%, respectively, with the former seeing a slight increase of 0.34 percentage points. In terms of core numbers, six-core processors continue to lead, experiencing a modest increase in share from 31.9% last month to 32.11%.
