The revenue of top 10 global IC houses in 2023Q2 increased by 12.5% month-on-month

TrendForce unveiled its latest research report, illustrating that the combined revenue of the world’s top ten IC design companies for Q2 2023 approximated $38.1 billion. This denotes a sequential increase of 12.5% from the previous quarter’s $33.86 billion. Riding the wave of Artificial Intelligence (AI) advancements, NVIDIA has officially supplanted Qualcomm, claiming the coveted top position.

NVIDIA’s data center segment witnessed a staggering 105% quarterly revenue spike, attributed largely to systems built on the Hopper and Ampere architectures. The notable growth in shipments of InfiniBand switches was another contributing factor. For Q2 2023, NVIDIA experienced a robust 68.3% quarter-on-quarter revenue surge, reaching $11.33 billion, pushing its market share to 29.7%. Qualcomm, in contrast, faced challenges from diminished Android smartphone shipments and seasonal adjustments, recording a 9.7% decline in quarterly revenue to $7.17 billion and a market share dip to 18.8%. Broadcom, despite benefiting from next-generation AI-driven sales of premium switches and routers, encountered revenue drops in server storage, broadband, and wireless sectors, offsetting growth. The firm’s Q2 2023 revenue remained relatively stagnant at around $6.9 billion, holding a market share of 18.1%.

AMD’s revenue for the quarter remained steady at roughly $5.36 billion, representing a market share of 14.1%, even as it grappled with declining revenues in gaming GPU and embedded sectors. MediaTek, after multiple quarters of inventory adjustments, saw many of its products transition to healthy stock levels. Coupled with some replenishment shipments, the company reported a slight increase in revenue for Q2 2023 to $3.2 billion, commanding an 8.4% market share. Marvell faced downturns in some primary business sectors, leading to a 1.4% sequential decrease in Q2 2023 revenue to $1.33 billion, translating to a 3.5% market stake.

Both Realtek, securing seventh place, and Synaptics in the eighth spot, benefited from inventory replenishments by clients, experiencing sequential growths of 24.7% and 32.6%, respectively. Silicon Motion and power management IC giant MPS occupied ninth and tenth positions, with both experiencing minor revenue declines for Q2 2023.

Looking forward to the third quarter, TrendForce posits that despite many companies showing significant inventory improvements compared to the first half, the general market demand remains tepid, with most projections erring on the side of caution. Nonetheless, TrendForce anticipates that Q3 2023 revenues for the top ten IC design companies will maintain double-digit quarterly growth, potentially setting new records.
