MSI pushes new BIOS to Intel 700 and 600 series motherboards

Last month, numerous users of MSI motherboards with the Intel 700 and 600 series reported experiencing a ‘Blue Screen of Death’ upon startup, accompanied by an error message denoting “UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR”, following the installation of specific Windows update patches. In response to this issue, MSI, just yesterday, rolled out a fresh BIOS update for a select group of the affected motherboards. As of this publication, the following motherboards have received the BIOS update:

MSI, in an official statement on their website, mentioned that after several weeks of joint investigation with Intel, they’ve identified the root cause of this blue screen error: a firmware setting issue with Intel’s hybrid architecture. They also delineated the extent of the problem: platforms equipped with the 13th generation Core i9, which recently received specific Windows updates, are susceptible to this error. The affected Windows versions are:

– Windows 11 22H2 (OS Build 2221.2215), Update KB5029351
– Windows 11 22H1 (OS Build 22000.2360), Update KB5029332
– Windows 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.3393), Update KB5029331

MSI briefly elucidated the content of the new BIOS update: it upgrades the microcode for Intel processors. This updated BIOS will be compatible with the 13th generation Core processors and the forthcoming processors, presumably the soon-to-be-released 14th generation Core. MSI has assured that more 700 and 600 series motherboards will receive the BIOS update within this week. By the end of September, all impacted motherboards should have access to this new BIOS update.
