Microsoft Announces Important Update for Windows Virtual Desktop

Windows Virtual Desktop is a remote desktop service provided by Microsoft cloud computing platform for enterprises. This service focuses on security and can also reduce enterprise hardware equipment expenditures.

For example, an enterprise can equip employees with equipment with extremely low hardware configuration, and use a remote desktop to connect to a virtual machine in a data center to save files during daily office work.

Cloud virtual machines can rely on employees to increase or decrease the configuration, and the various files generated daily are also saved directly in the cloud without worrying about potential security issues.

Microsoft just announced in the blog that it brings important updates to Windows Virtual Desktop, and IT administrators are advised to check the following updates.

During the coronavirus epidemic, more and more companies began to use Microsoft Teams for remote collaboration, daily communication, and remote audio and video conferences.

However, the application is not yet supported on the virtual desktop, mainly because the virtual desktop function system is located in the data center and cannot directly call the camera and microphone.

But for the enterprise needs, Microsoft still has to solve it. Microsoft has already started to prepare Microsoft Teams for the WVD version to support remote audio and video conferences.

Microsoft said the company is currently optimizing audio and video sessions to improve the experience of using Microsoft Teams to initiate remote audio and video conferences.

In terms of functionality, Microsoft said it expects to provide a public preview within a month, at which time interested companies can participate in the test in advance to meet remotely on the virtual desktop.

Microsoft has provided a better virtual desktop management experience for enterprise administrators. Administrators can set up a virtual desktop host pool directly on the Azure portal.

While supporting the rapid management of applications or desktops and distribution to employees, Microsoft will also improve the auto-scaling experience through Azure Automation and Azure Logic.

The new management experience has now been launched, and enterprise administrators can now log in to the management portal to switch to the new management interface to quickly manage cloud virtual machines.

At present, virtual desktop services have been provided worldwide, and at the same time, Microsoft will give enterprises the choice of data center options, allowing enterprises to choose their own data storage.

However, countries and regions require that corporate data be kept in the local area and cannot be transferred abroad without permission, so new compliance services can meet local regulatory requirements.

The first batch of support includes data centers in the United States and most of Europe, and then companies will be able to select and switch data centers around the world to meet demand.

In terms of security, you can add user groups to virtual desktops through Azure AD groups, support static or dynamic conditional access policies, and support mandatory MFA authentication.

Finally, virtual desktops are now integrated with Azure Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and analytics, and administrators can better manage the control of user permissions.
