Marvel’s Wolverine Unleashed: Leaked Tech Hints at AI-Powered PS5 Pro

Previously, we reported that Insomniac Games suffered a cyberattack leading to a substantial information leak. Recently, a slide concerning “Marvel’s Wolverine” has been circulating online, suggesting the game will support AI upscaling technology and hinting at AI capabilities in the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro.

According to wccftech, this slide originated from last month’s leak at Insomniac Games. It elaborately details the gaming technologies being employed or developed for “Marvel’s Wolverine.” These include cinematic-quality facial animations, enhanced destruction effects, real-time global illumination, dynamic weather and foliage, deformable surfaces, and optimized character movements. Additionally, this Marvel hero-centered game is set to feature AI upscaling – a technology that uses AI models to enlarge images and fill in pixels, achieving visual effects similar to FSR and DLSS. Analysis of the slide suggests this feature could enable the game to run at 60 frames per second in ray tracing mode on gaming consoles. Given that the PS5 lacks dedicated hardware supporting AI functions and “Marvel’s Wolverine” is a PlayStation exclusive, this feature is likely exclusive to the PS5 Pro. Moreover, as this function is realized through machine learning, it likely isn’t AMD’s FSR technology.

However, this isn’t the first mention of AI capabilities in the PlayStation 5 Pro. Previous leaks about the PS5 Pro’s hardware revealed that the console would be equipped with an NPU (Neural Processing Unit). Regarding other specifications, rumors suggest that the PS5 Pro’s CPU will continue to use the Zen 2 architecture with an increased frequency of 4.4 GHz. The GPU, based on the RDNA 3 architecture, is expected to feature 30 WGP, equivalent to 60 CUs or 3840 stream processors, with a frequency of around 2 GHz. Additionally, the console is anticipated to be equipped with 18Gbps GDDR6 memory, offering a bandwidth of 576 GB/s.

Rumors also indicate that Sony has been distributing PS5 Pro development kits to third-party studios. Major media outlets are currently predicting the console’s release in September of this year.
