Google will reduce application commissions for Android TV & Android Auto apps

Google recently launched a new program. If Android application developers are willing to help their applications for more in-depth integration on WearOS and Android Auto and other Google ecosystem platforms, then Google will reduce the commission for these applications on Google Play, from 30% to 15%.
For a long time, Google Play and App Store’s commission is the same 30%. After Epic started to file a lawsuit with Apple over the rake, Google quickly stated that it would reduce the app’s rake. For example, only 15% of the first $1 million in revenue each year. Recently, Google has stated that it will completely reduce the game application fee to 0% in the future.
This new program is called the “Play Media Experience Program”, Google hopes to use this program to encourage Android application developers to support more platforms under Google, not just mobile phones.
For example, if the developers of video applications want to enjoy this reduced commission, they need to further integrate the application to Android TV, Google TV, Google Cast, etc., and support cross-device playback and integrated login. Audio applications need to be integrated into WearOS, Android Auto, Google Cast, Android TV. In addition to integrating on other Google platforms, reading apps also need to be optimized for tablets and folding screen devices.
However, for developers to enjoy the 15% discount, their apps also need to have a good review on Google Play and a good developer account. In addition, the application needs to have at least 100,000 monthly new installations on Google Play.

This is why this new plan may only benefit from large-scale applications. Although theoretically small applications may also meet the various qualifications mentioned above, it takes a lot of manpower to optimize and adapt to other Google platforms. It takes a lot of time for small developers to make such adaptations. In any case, it is also a good thing for developers to have more commission reduction policies.
