Framework laptop will launch a full-size SD card reader module

The hallmark of the Framework laptop lies in its modular design. Beyond the customization of its internal hardware, its external ports are entirely user-defined. When placing an order, customers can tailor their selections based on individual requirements, choosing from options like USB ports or display outputs. Framework continuously innovates by introducing new port modules, and they recently announced an impending full-size SD card reader module.

While Framework does offer a MicroSD card slot module, for photographers and photography enthusiasts, a full-size SD card reader remains an essential feature. Given that most contemporary cameras utilize full-size SD cards, Framework conveyed that they had initially contemplated incorporating a full-size SD reader during their inaugural laptop’s development phase. However, due to limited resources, their focus was directed towards more pressing aspects. Now, with growing demand from the community, they are committed to launching an official full-size SD card reader module.

In a community poll by Framework, the full-size SD card slot module garnered an anticipation rate of 44%, ranking second to the gigabit ethernet port module. The ethernet port was unequivocally the most desired feature, with a staggering 80% of participants expressing interest (participants could select multiple options). Having already introduced the ethernet module, the full-size SD card reader has naturally ascended Framework’s priority list.

At present, Framework offers models powered by both Intel’s 12th generation Core and AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series CPUs. These configurations more than suffice for post-production photography tasks. With the imminent release of a higher-spec 16-inch Framework laptop, even video editing tasks can be effortlessly managed. Thus, the inclusion of a full-size SD card slot further amplifies this modular laptop’s productivity potential.
