Apple will not release an Airtag 2 until 2025

Previously, it was anticipated that Apple’s new Airtag 2 device would commence mass production by the end of this year. However, market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has recently revised his forecast, suggesting that this product will be deferred to 2025 for its mass production.

In earlier statements, Apple seemed keen on constructing an innovative spatial computing paradigm, incorporating devices like the Vision Pro and AirTag 2. Consequently, the AirTag 2 might serve as an auxiliary device for location purposes. For instance, it could aid Vision Pro in achieving more precise positioning or integrate enhanced application services through its location capabilities.

Nevertheless, the specifics of AirTag 2 remain ambiguous. Ming-Chi Kuo initially predicted that this product would go into mass production in the fourth quarter of 2024, potentially entering the market in the spring of 2025. He has since revised this, now suggesting a delay until 2025 for mass production.

Concurrently, Samsung has launched its new positioning device, the Galaxy SmartTag2. This latest version starkly contrasts design with its predecessor, the Galaxy SmartTag. It features a more user-friendly design with a giant hole for easier attachment, complemented by a metallic ring to enhance durability. The device utilizes a CR2032 battery, generally offering approximately 500 days of standby time. When paired with its novel power-saving mode, this standby duration can extend up to 700 days.

Available in both black and white variants, the device boasts an IP67 waterproof rating. Furthermore, it employs low-energy Bluetooth and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technologies. Users can harness the AR Find feature, aligning it with Galaxy series phones, to use augmented reality directions, pinpointing the exact location and direction of the Galaxy SmartTag2. The Bluetooth positioning range spans up to 120 meters, but with the mesh connectivity of other Galaxy devices, it can enable long-distance tracking.
