Apple is developing a large number of functions that use automatically generated AI

In addition to hinting that Apple might unveil the new 24-inch iMac on October 30th, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, in his ‘Power On’ column, expounds on Apple’s vigorous endeavors in the realm of autoregressive artificial intelligence (AI) applications, inclusive of an AI-enhanced version of their digital assistant, Siri.

Esteemed individuals such as the former Google executive, currently overseeing machine learning and AI technologies at Apple, John Giannandrea, coupled with Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, are propelling the advancement of diverse AI services. Eddy Cue, a senior executive responsible for services within Apple, has also joined the brigade championing the evolution of pertinent AI products.

While Apple has consistently advocated its commitment to AI applications, the recent strides made by entities like OpenAI in autoregressive AI seem to have cast a shadow of concern, prompting Apple to ardently bridge the developmental gap.

Under the stewardship of John Giannandrea, the novel AI technology will amalgamate a more sophisticated Siri digital assistant, primed for an anticipated reveal next year. Furthermore, Craig Federighi’s team is sculpting Apple’s proprietary large-scale natural language model, slated for integration into the succeeding iOS operating system. This technology will also find its way into the latest version of the Xcode development tool, empowering developers with the ability to swiftly craft applications using autoregressive AI, potentially rivaling Microsoft’s GitHub Copilot development tool.

Moreover, Apple seems poised to infuse autoregressive AI into Apple Music, facilitating the automated generation of music playlists. There’s also buzz about leveraging this technology in Pages and Keynote for rapid document creation. Apple even contemplates incorporating autoregressive AI into the AppleCare customer service systems.

From prior reports, Apple appears to be crafting an internal autoregressive AI, tentatively dubbed ‘Apple GPT‘, as a formidable contender to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Rumors also swirl that Apple allocates approximately a billion dollars annually to AI research. However, the company remains ambivalent about deploying the AI entirely on the cloud, on devices, or through a hybrid approach.
