Apple has released IOS 17.1 and IPadOS 17.1

Apple recently released updates for iOS 17.1, iPadOS 17.1, and watchOS 10.1. These updates introduce the capability for iPhones and iPads to continue pending file transfers through mobile networks. As for watchOS 10.1, it now integrates a default two-finger pinch gesture, facilitating actions such as answering calls or pausing and playing music.

Earlier, Apple had already launched the iOS 17.1 update in France, rectifying the alleged electromagnetic radiation levels of the iPhone 12 series, as highlighted by French regulatory authorities. This global release of iOS 17.1, accompanied by the rollout of iPadOS 17.1, chiefly allows for the continuation of AirDrop file transfers via mobile networks when beyond Wi-Fi range. However, this might incur additional charges for users not on unlimited data plans.

Other enhancements include the addition of favored tracks, albums, and playlist options in Apple Music. The service now also suggests new song recommendations at the end of playlists. Furthermore, the update addresses screen burn-in issues related to OLED displays, resolves location reset issues when pairing with the Apple Watch, and offers support for the recently announced USB-C version of the Apple Pencil for iPads.

The watchOS 10.1 update for Apple Watch introduces the two-finger pinch gesture, exclusively supported by the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, both powered by the Sp SiP processor. This feature is enabled by default after the update, but users can disable it in settings if desired.

The swift pinch gesture supports functionalities like accessing smart stack widgets on the watch face, answering or ending calls, browsing messages in notifications, using timers or stopwatches, and even snoozing alarms. It also offers remote shutter control in the camera app, primarily designed to enhance the user experience by enabling swift watch operations with a single hand.

Thanks to the S9 SiP processor and advanced machine learning techniques, the system can recognize the user’s rapid pinching motion between the thumb and index finger. This action is used to activate or deactivate specific features or services. However, as of now, the pinch gesture doesn’t support functionalities like ECG, heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep focus, walkie-talkie, ongoing map navigation, ongoing activity mindfulness and exercise, and including emergency SOS, fall detection, and collision detection.

Other rectifications address issues such as blank displays in the climate section of the Home app and synchronization discrepancies between cities on iPhone and Apple Watch within the Weather app. Moreover, the update remedies the occasional unintentional appearance of scroll bars on displays.
